Fantasy Quest: Lyonseeker - Chapter Five: Final Installment
Chapter Five: Final Installment
I love wrapping up a chapter. It brings, literally, another chapter to a close as we climb through this fantasy tale. Two more chapters as we close in and find out if the twins can in fact offer what Lyonseekr is wanting in his existence. Does he truly want to remove his elemental life for a true existence or does he change his mind and maintain the ethereal? You’ll have to keep reading to find out!
Read on!

Lyonseekr, along with the group, ran for the Path. The elemental did not know what to look for or when they would actually be on this Path. He kept his eye on the bellywacks as more gathered on the handrail. Though he could not see them, their beady eyes gave them away in the darkness. He turned back towards the group when he ran into Doyle. The dwarf stumbled and fell into Brit, who tripped trying to run with Lyonreapr.
Lyra screamed as she hit the ground. When Chug turned with the lantern.
“It is just ahead!” He said. “Everyone must get up!”
A screech echoed through the forest, with the next one just above them all. The elemental could feel their energy as they drew in closer. He was not concerned for his safety but worried for the twins, as they were easy prey.
“The bellywacks are here!” yelled Lyonseekr.
The group tried to duck when the first one flew in from the darkness and picked at the dwarf’s thick stone dwarf helmet. In its attempt, it held on too long, and flew into the back of Lyonreapr, who tumbled forward and into Kry, who carried Kona’s body. The tontar maintained his balance when a bellywack flew in and tried to pull Kona’s body from his shoulder.
With Chug’s morningstar swinging, the tontar yelled at the attempt in the dark. The elf pulled his arrow, and as it lit, he released it, when a deathly screech was given as a thud in the darkness hit the brush in a crash.
“One,” mumbled the elf.
More screeches were released with two more swooping in and hitting the party with their sharp claws and even sharper teeth. The twins came into protection as Doyle and Brit held them in close. The dwarf’s shield came around from its backside, and he placed it over the young lass as they ran. Brit’s electric sword static gave a light to the dark forest with Lycra conjuring an orb and tossing it into the sky. It hit with a bellywack crashing into the darkness.
“Here!” yelled Chug.
The tontar waved the lantern in the air. He was at a distance from the group, and Lyonseekr wondered how he moved so quickly.
“We must get there fast!” yelled Lyonseekr.
He pushed the dwarf in the back with Lyonreapr struggling her way with her limp. More bellywacks attacked from the dark as they picked at the tops of the parties’ heads, shoulders and Lyonreapr had scratches across her face. They approached Chug.
“Once you enter, you cannot come off it,” he warned.
There the Path was, sitting higher than the surrounding ground, and it held interlocking bricks. The first to enter was Kry with Kona, and as he entered, a soft orange glow lit the path just a few feet ahead and behind. He lowered her body and stretched his back. The party all entered when a bellywack came rushing in and grabbed Lyra just before she could place a foot on the brick.
It tried to lift the girl, but Doyle grabbed its leg and yanked it from the sky. The beast pulled Lyra to the ground as its claws tore into her shoulder. The young lass screamed out in pain when the dwarf grabbed the bellywack by the neck and strangled the beast. It released Lyra, who was pulled to the path by Lyonseekr.
Doyle threw the beast into the dark and reached the brick when three beasts hit the invisible barrier and bounced from it, screeching a horrible sound.
Lyra was bleeding and in terrible shape. Lycra tried to hold a vibrating orb to her shoulder, trying to close the wound. Lyra cried in pain as Brit pulled Lycra away.
“I have it,” said the female ranger. “Someone hold her down.”
She held out her sword as its electric charge followed the blade. Lyonseekr understood and grabbed both legs as Telu grabbed an arm and Doyle grabbed the other. Brit paused.
“This is going to hurt, but it will seal this wound,” said Brit.
“What about infection?” questioned Chug. “If you seal it, whatever that bellywack had on its nails will be sealed inside her.”
“I must stop the bleeding,” said Brit.
“That’s fine, but leave a small gap at the end so anything can ooze from the wound,” said Chug.
Brit agreed, and she looked to the three holding Lyra as they all held tight. The ranger pulled her sword to the wound, and Lyra let out a yell. She was trying to fight them off as the sword sealed off most of the gash. Brit stopped just at the bottom when Lyra kicked Lyonseekr across the Path. The young one easily tossed the elf off his grip, but the dwarf held strong.
“Enough,” said Lyra. “I am healed.”
Lyonseekr sat on the brick path and shook his head from the roll. Telu bounced off an invisible barrier keeping them on the Path and caught himself before tumbling any further. Lyra stood and went to Lycra as the two twins hugged.
“Wow, she is strong,” said Telu.
“Strangely strong,” said Lyonseekr.
The party looked at the twins, sensing a power they’d underestimated, and a collective hope bloomed within them.
“Which direction?” asked Kry.
Chug looked left and then right and tried to understand their position in the forest. They had come a long way from the swamp, but in the rush and escape of the bellywacks, he lost his direction.
“Um?” said Chug.

Terrific!
